What families say

We had no idea there were so many selective schools to choose from. This helped us narrow it down to a shortlist that actually made sense for our daughter. We ended up applying to schools we had not even considered before.

Child placed at Hornsby Girls High School

We were not sure whether to aim for a fully selective or partially selective school. John helped us understand the difference and which one suited our son. It made the decision much clearer and reduced a lot of unnecessary stress.

Child placed at Girraween High School

Before coming to Bing's Academy we had a rough idea of the schools we wanted, but hadn't thought about the commute at all. Knowing the walk from the station made a real difference when we were deciding between two schools close in ranking.

1 School gender
Do you have a preference for a boys, girls, or co-educational school?
Most NSW selective schools are co-educational, but several are single-sex. If this matters for your family, select your preference below. Otherwise choose no preference.
2 School type
Do you prefer a fully or partially selective school?
Fully selective: every student is placed through the selective exam. No local area intake. A selective academic environment across all year groups.

Partially selective: a selective stream runs alongside local students from Years 7 to 10. At the end of Year 10, the selective and mainstream students combine for Years 11 and 12.
3 Agricultural schools
Are you open to schools where agriculture is a compulsory subject?
Four fully selective schools — James Ruse, Hurlstone, Farrer and Yanco — require students to study agriculture from Years 7 to 10. James Ruse is one of the highest-ranked selective schools in NSW. Hurlstone also offers boarding places. Richmond Agricultural College is a partially selective school where the selective stream also requires agriculture across two campuses.
4 Location
Where is your child travelling from?
Enter your suburb. We use this to filter schools by the part of Sydney you are in — it is a broad guide, not an exact commute analysis.

Can't find your suburb?

5 Getting there
How far is your child willing to walk from the station?
We show the nearest train or metro station and walking time for every school. Some schools require a longer walk — good to know before you apply.
6 Getting there
Are you happy to include schools only reachable by bus?
Some schools have no nearby train or metro station. They are accessible by bus, but the commute works differently. Let us know if you want to see them.
7 Academic ambition
Which ranking range are you aiming for?
Based on recent HSC rankings. These shift slightly year to year so use them as a guide. If you are not sure, choose the last option and we will show everything that matches.

How to read these results

NSW Ranking

Schools are ranked by their overall HSC performance relative to all other NSW schools, including private schools. The ranking is based on publicly available 2025 HSC data. Rank 1 is the highest performing school in NSW.

Fully vs partially selective

Fully selective schools admit all students through the selective placement test. Every student in Years 7 to 12 earned their place. Partially selective schools have a selective stream (typically 60 to 90 places) that runs alongside a local-area mainstream intake. At the end of Year 10, the two cohorts usually combine for Years 11 and 12.

Preparing with Bing's Academy
Now find out if your child is actually on track for these schools.
Knowing which schools fit your preferences is step one. The harder question is whether your child's current level matches what those schools actually require across the four exam sections. That is what our initial assessment is for.

Know a family who should see which schools suit their child?

HSC rankings, school intake zones, and entry requirements change from year to year. This list is a starting point based on your location and preferences — it does not guarantee a place at any school. Check directly with each school for current enrolment criteria before making decisions.
