Thinking Skills · one question

Both scales below are balanced.

Scale 1 Scale 2

How many triangles would balance four circles?

What comes back.

Marked the moment they hand in. Not a week later, and not by email.

Reading 14 of 17, Mathematical Reasoning 29 of 35, Thinking Skills 29 of 40

Each paper on its own

Three scores tell you which paper to spend the next month on.

Where the misses were: Conditional reasoning 6 of 9 missed, Ratio, rate and proportion 3 of 4 missed, and four more skills

The skill behind the mistake

“Conditional reasoning, 6 of 9 missed” is something you can actually work on.

The Reading paper's 17 questions as green and red squares: 2, 10 and 11 dropped

Every question, green or red

The right answer under each one, while the mistake is still fresh.

They can sit it again whenever they like. The answer choices shuffle, so a second go tests whether they can work it out, not whether they remember.

otherwise they are just memorising

Isn’t a past paper enough?

Four things a past paper cannot do.

The exam is sat on a screen, so the format is part of what they are practising.

A clock that does not stop

Counting down in the same corner of the same screen as the real test.

Reading beside the questions

Scrolling a text while answering is its own skill, and a printed page does not teach it.

Flagging, skipping, coming back

It works the way it works on the day.

A score nobody at home had to give

The mark arrives without a parent having to judge it.

Why this is free.

When I sat these exams there was nothing to practise on. Every child I have taught since has asked me the same question on the way in: what is it actually like.

A parent should be able to find out where their child stands without paying anyone first. If your child wants help with what the results show, you know where we are. That is the whole of the catch.

What we can and cannot say.

students we taught who sat the Selective test in 2026 received an offer.

We will never promise a place: the Department marks the exam and the cut-offs move every year. What we can promise is that you will know where your child stands, long before the exam.

We have 2 children go through Bing (with 1 still attending weekly lessons). They have achieved scholarship and selective school offers. Additionally, they are firmly in the honours / A stream classes at their respective top tier schools.

I highly recommend Bing’s Academy to any families who would like to help their children reach their potential in a way that schools or larger group tutoring sessions cannot provide.

that is the part that is not free

Before you send it to them.

Is it the real timing?

Yes. There are three papers. They take 125 minutes in total, the same as the real test. Your child can stop between papers and come back later.

Can they sit it again?

Yes, as many times as they like. The answer choices are mixed up each time.

Is there more than one test?

There is one free test. They can sit it as many times as they like. Students in our tutoring get more tests.

Is this the current format?

Yes. The test is made by Cambridge Assessment. It changed at the end of 2025. Our papers match the test as it is now, and we update them when it changes. Many books and worksheets were made for the old test. Practising with them means practising for a test that is gone.

How do they come back to their answers?

When they hand in, your child gets their own link. Save it or bookmark it. It opens their page, with all their answers, on any device. A new device just asks for your child's first name. On the same browser, this page also takes them back. Without the link, a new device starts fresh.

Do you see what my child does?

We can see that they sat the test and the score they got. Nobody watches them while they work, and we never share it with anyone.

See where your child stands.
